HBScF / HBScF (Co-op)
Applicants who have completed an accredited Forest Technician or Technology Diploma program with a minimum B average are eligible for admission consideration to second year of the Honours Bachelor of Science Forestry program.
By accredited programs, the Faculty of Natural Resources Management means Forestry diploma programs which meet, or exceed, the standards specified in "Forest Technician; A Training Profile".
All other applicants who have completed a Forest Technician or Technology diploma will be considered for admission to first year of the Honours Bachelor of Science Forestry program.
Applicants must forward official copies of transcripts to the Office of the Registrar before an admission decision may be made. Further information on the transfer program may be obtained by writing the Chair, HBSc Forestry Program
The following admissions and course advanced standing policy will be followed for Forest Technician or Technology Diploma transfer students:
1. If a student graduates from an accredited Forest Technician or Technology Diploma program with an overall minimum average of 70%, the student will be allowed to register in year 2, and advanced standing will be given for the following courses:
- Forestry 1094 - Field School
- Forestry 1010 - Dendrology I: Tree Identification
- Forestry 1050 - Contemporary Forest Issues
- Computer Science 0412 - Elementary Computing for Foresters
- Forestry 1071 - Forestry Business and Equipment
- Forestry 1110 - Forest Mensuration I
- Biology 1130 - Plant Biology
- Forestry 2094 - Field School
- Forestry 2xx0 - Unspecified Elective
- Forestry 2110 - Forest Soils I
- Biology 2210 - Introductory Ecology
- Forestry 2270 - Photogrammetry
- Forestry 2330 - Silviculture I
- Forestry 2370 - Fire Ecology and Management
No additional advanced standing in HBScF program courses will be given based on a Forest Technician or Technology Diploma.
2. If a student graduates from an accredited Forest Technician or Technology Diploma program with an overall minimum average of 60%, but less than 70%, the student will be allowed to register in year 1.
Advanced standing for courses listed in Item 1 may be given on an individual basis based on a review by the Office of the Registrar and the department, providing a minimum grade of 70% has been achieved in all courses used to obtain the advanced standing.
3. No advanced standing will be given for year 3 or 4 level courses.
4. Except for the exemption of the year 1 elective when a student is allowed to register directly into year 2, no advanced standing will be given for electives based on Forest Technician or Technology Diploma program courses.
5. A student who has graduated from a Forest Technician or Technology Diploma program may use university level courses for advanced standing providing a minimum grade of 60% has been achieved.
6. Forest technician or technology graduates accepted directly into year 2 of the HBScF Co-op option must complete a minimum of four work terms.
7. Forest technician or technology graduates accepted into year 2 of the HBScF Co-op option with two or more years (i.e., 24 months) of relevant forest sector work experience may be given credit for up to one work term at the first year level.
In order to qualify for this credit the student must submit an acceptable written report to the Faculty of Natural Resources Management Co-op advisor by December 1st, of the year of entry.

By accredited programs, the Faculty of Natural Resources Management means Forestry diploma programs which meet, or exceed, the standards specified in "Forest Technician; a Training Profile".
All other applicants who have completed a Forest Technician or Technology diploma will be considered for admission to first year of the Honours Bachelor of Environmental Studies (Forest Conservation) program.
