Lakehead Forestry is situated in the Boreal Forest region, one of the largest terrestrial ecosystems on earth and in the watershed of Lake Superior. Our students have abundent field research opportunities that include:
 
The Jack Haggerty Forest
- a research forest and outdoor laboratory for students to experience first hand sound forest management practices
 
The Legacy Forest
  - an experimental research forest to study the impacts of intensive forest management on forest sustainability
 
Our students also have access to the latest scientific equipment and laboratories. Lakehead Forestry operates eleven specialized laboratories, including the Centre for Application of Resource Information System (LU-CARIS), the Nutrient Ecology Laboratory, Forest Soils Laboratory and Forest Genetics Laboratory.
