Ghana Graduate Scholarship Program (1993 - 2001)
Goal:
-
To train future decision-makers within Ghana's government, universities or private sector, in areas relevant to land-management programs.
Forty-nine student years of training were provided to candidates from Ghana in Lakehead's Master of Forestry or Master of Science in Forestry programs.
Program Activities:
- Following a comprehensive selection process involving the University of Science and Technology, Kumasi, Ghana, the University of Ghana, Legon and Lakehead University, qualified Ghanaians were admitted to the MScF or MF programs in the Faculty of Natural Resources Management
- Upon completion of their respective academic programs the Ghanaian graduate students returned to Ghana and their places of employment
- six of the twelve Faculty members who were Ghanaian-student supervisors participated in their respective student's field work in Ghana. Two other Faculty members who were involved in another CIDA-funded project supervised their own Ghanaian graduate students field activities while they were in Ghana
